Abstract

The authors discuss what they describe as the merits and shortcomings of major traffic control concepts and algorithms, from isolated intersections to arterials and networks. It is considered to be a rather concise summary of the state of the art in traffic signal network control. All discussions are in terms of the mathematic model, the prediction, and the optimization of objectives.
