Abstract
Equipment for the acquisition of traffic data is reviewed, including pneumatic instruments, inductive loop sensors, magnetic sensors, piezoelectric sensors, microwave radar sensors, infrared detectors, ultrasonic sensors, acoustic sensors, video image processor and video detection systems. A summary of technologies and systems for vehicle counting and traffic monitoring is provided. No single detection technology is considered the most suitable for all applications.
