Abstract

Five different methods for determining breath alcohol concentrations have been studied in our company. 1. Alcotest tubes; 2. electrochemical cells; 3. devices comprising semiconductor gas sensors; 4. gas chromatography; and 5. infrared absorption. Methods 1 to 3 are appropriate for roadside screening tests, each under different conditions, 4. for evidential tests in police stations and 5. for both precise screening and evidential tests. Optimum control of alcohol intoxication requires different test devices suiting the test situation.
