Comparison of exhaust emissions from combustion of commercial, reformulated and bio-diesel fuels.

Abstract

The regulated (CO, HC, NOx, PM) and organic (aldehydes and PAHs) emissions from the combustion of commercial diesel fuel, low-aromatic reformulated diesel fuel and bio-diesel fuel (RME 30% wt) in a heavy duty DAEWOO AVIA engine were determined. Experimental results obtained showed that the amount and composition of exhaust emissions were very similar for all tested diesel fuels. The combustion of bio-diesel fuel resulted in smaller emissions of CO, HC and PM in comparison with the combustion of commercial diesel fuel. The combustion of an ecological friendly reformulated diesel fuel, which met CARB regulations, did not bring any significant improvement of emission parameters with the exception of lower PAH emissions.
