Abstract

This paper presents results of a study made to compare and examine the similarities, correlations where they exist, and differences between USA and CEN (the Committee for European Normalization) occupant risk indices for vehicular crash tests of longitudinal barriers (safety barriers) and a crash cushion. The data from which the indices were compiled were obtained from computer simulation models (HVOSM and BARRIER VII) and crash tests. Commentary are presented concerning the efficiency of current indices and other more sophisticated means by which occupant risk may be determined in the future. (A)
