Abstract

Since 1992, a variety of demonstration projects have been carried out in Barcelona and Trondheim which provide a rich experience of how telematics-based demand management strategies can be applied in quite different urban situations. The paper provides an overview and highlights results from pilot demonstrators of applied technological innovation carried out over 5 years (during the 3rd and 4th Framework Programmes). Recent results from the on-going CONCERT project (where Barcelona and Trondheim collaborate with Bologna, Bristol, Dublin, Hanover, Marseille and Thessaloniki) are included. The main focus of the paper is to show how the jig-saw of technology demonstrations fit within a broader arena of policy development that has been assisted by collaborative research on problem and action prioritisation.
