Abstract

Considering climate conditions of Russia (winter temperature up to minus 55OC and sharp temperature differences),it is pro-posed to use a polymer-bitumen binder (PBB) instead of bitu-mens when constructing asphalt concrete pavements of roads, bridges and airfields. The polymer-bitumen binder based on block copolymers of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) type is proposed to be used first. Block copolymers of SBS type as distinct from bitumens are elastomers.Standards of brittle temperature according to Fraas correspond to average minimum winter temperatures of the construction region, the elasticity at 25OC and O0C should be not less than 75% and the softening point not lower than for the more viscous grade of road bitumen.
