Abstract

Human limitations of attention and memory are basic to the analysis of skilled performance. This article discusses recent efforts to determine a channel capacity for man in simple tasks of information transmission, the use of these techniques to demonstrate that the rate of loss of information from a short-term memory system depends on the attention available, and the phenomena of interference and imagery.
