Abstract

In the collection of traffic information, traffic engineers usually use methods with apparatus installed at the roadside. However, by using such methods, it is difficult to collect traffic information simultaneously over a wide area. This paper proposes a method of collecting traffic information simultaneously over a wide area using satellite images. First, the project extracts the road areas from a satellite image using a digital map, andthen detects the edges of vehicles on the roads. Then, the project computes the vehicle density from the number of edges on each road.
