Abstract

Starting from conventional data describing a signal-controlled road junction and the pattern of traffic passing through it, the computer program SIGSET checks whether the specified traffic is within the practical capacity of the junction and, if so, calculates signal timings which minimize the average delay per unit time for the specified traffic, subject to the usual constraints on the duration of the cycle and of particular green periods.
