Abstract

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is conducting a research program to investigate pedestrian injuries. On the basis of a problem identification study, it was concluded that one of the most important injury classifications is thoracic injuries to children caused by impacts with vehicle faces. The approach being used to investigate thoracic injuries to child pedestrians has been described.
