Abstract

The details of a digital computer simulation model are described and its results are shown in comparison with the results of field tests. The model predicts the field test visibility distances to within reasonable errors. Using the computer simulation model various comparisons are shown to demonstrate the effects of a number of important variables that can affect night driving visibility such as the beam intensity distribution and aim of the lamps. The restrictions on the use of the model are also discussed.
