Abstract

"i-mode" is a service provided by NTT DoCoMo that enables users to access the Internet using their mobile phones. This service has experienced explosive growth in Japan and is widely popular among many different ages of users. i-mode offers a tremendous variety of content, many of which involve ITS. Further, integration with car navigation systems has also been realised today, so one can use i-mode seamlessly to research information while in an automobile. This paper highlights the development concept of the i-mode, identifying its key success factors and describing its development in the ITS field.
