Abstract

In the past developments in light sources have changed our conception of the form of lighting. The incandescent lamp is a concentrated source luminaires have been of relatively small size. The fluorescent lamp is a diffuse and it has lead to large area luminaires and overallceiling systems. Now high-intensity mercury and other dischargesources will find wide application for industrial and commercial lighting. They will ultimately have some impact on residential lighting practics. Concentrated and diffuse sources will be combined and new relationships between lighting, buildings and their functions will result in novel forms.
