Abstract

Concrete highway construction techniques and technology continues to evolve. The recent increases in oil costs, leading to asphalt prices rising noticeably and faster than those for concrete, has spurred renewed discussion over which construction technique now offers the best long term solutionfor road building. The issues of ride quality, skid resistance (particularly in the wet) and road noise are hot topics in the debate over the choice of asphalt or concrete for road construction. This article describes some of the machinery being made available as concrete highway construction technology continues to improve.
