Abstract

At the conference "Road Safety Europe" held in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, September 21-23, 1998, one of the themes was "Speed - safety and environment". Six of the papers presented within this framework were: Faster and faster (Vasi, P.); Speed and lateral clearance on tree-lined roads - investigated using the BASt's instrumented vehicle for research into interactional processes in road traffic (FIS) (Zwielich, F., Reker, K. and Flach, J.); Study of speed and effectiveness of speed restrictions in urban areas (Gaca, S. and Tracz, M.); Safety deficits on German highways and solutions by traffic management systems and telematic applications (Steinauer, B.); Speed characteristics and traffic safety for mobile and stationary monitoring (Lipphard, D. and Meewes, V.); Road safety benchmarking - speed management (Mooren, L.).
