Abstract
The increase of traffic is the reason for situations in which flow on the highway stagnates. Signal controlled junctions are often overloaded and congestion occurs. The better use of the capacity can decrease these congestion. A literature survey has been carried out on algorithms which increase the capacity. The algorithms should be simulated to test their efficiency. Variable yellow and maximum green are already tested in practice at the moment, but the results are not yet available.
