Abstract

Special requirements of racing drivers' helmets and kinematics related to cockpit surrounds including restraint systems as part of the overall crash protection system, are examined. Trackside furniture and "ride down" arrester devices currently in use are discussed and an indication of the direction of future development is proposed.
