Abstract

The author first analyzes all the functions which a street should fulfil. He then examines these functions one by one and notes the widths necessary for them. These functions cover the movement of automobiles, pedestrians, two-wheel vehicles, public transportation, parking and underground networks. In a synthesis, the total width necessary for handling or accommodating this traffic is deduced, but also taking into account the particular features of the street (business, residential).
