Abstract

The state of the art, as embodied in the available literature and in advanced practice, is reviewed. The report opens with a brief characterization of embankment failures and loads. In five chapters specific design and construction questions are dealed. Miscellaneous topics addressed are special materials, buried structures and bridge approaches ecological considerations, intra agency communications, and field instrumentation.
