Abstract

In Connecticut a frangible-tube, energy-absorbing bridge barrier system was installed. The experimental barrier absorbs the impact forces of a colliding vehicle by using fragmenting aluminium tubes. This paper describes details of the construction of the experimental barrier on a bridge having concrete parapet walls.
