Abstract

Lap-shoulder belts became standard without effective explanation of why they should be used. This paper looks at the past history of restraints, forecasts the future if air-bags are to be mandated explaining them. A motorist survey showed strong dislike of air-bags. The claims of the number of lives saved by the air-bag are questioned.
