Abstract

Experimental data and mathematical models are examined for three characteristics of the rolling tyre: the area of contact, slip motion, and normal as well as tangential stresses between the tyre and the road. The roadway surface and possible contaminant between the tyre and roadway are studied with emphasis on the marked effect of water on contact processes at high velocities.
