Abstract

The development of specifications for pavement grooving projects is presented. Minimum acceptable coverage of the specified pattern is 95%. Water and residue from the cutting operation are picked up by vacuum pumps. A maximum operational noise level of 86 dB is allowed. Before and after accident studies of pavement-grooving projects are presented. Pavement grooving has resulted in an 85% reduction of wet pavement accidents in the grooved areas.
