Abstract

By reason of the vast increase in vehicular traffic to a peak of 7500 vehicles per hour on a four lane dual carriageway, the National Transport Commission of RSA allocated funds for widening and also limited funds for the lighting. The new road surfaces were specified. The complete electrical and lighting installation had to be designed to provide an economical capital and maintenance cost system and planned to proceed in conjunction with the civil road alteration works.
