Abstract

If buses or tractor- motor- vehicle and trailer, combinations are driven in hilly country or in the mountains, they should be equipped with retarders for the sake of safety, economy and also luxury features. The downhill driving brake (retarder) largely converts potential energy of the vehicle into heat and dissipates that heat to the environment.
