Abstract

European railways are making considerable efforts towards a common system for train control and traffic management. Three railway companies (Italy, France, Germany) are acting for this objective as members of the European Economic Interest Group `Users Group' (EEIG Users Group). This users group has specified the technical essentials in the first place to the interoperability of the system. In the following years there will be first installations for testing the interoperability and the performance of the system. Interoperability means in particular that trains can cross all over Europe without the necessity to consider different national signalling equipment.
