Abstract

A digital computer has been used on-line for the control of traffic in one eastbound lane of the Lincoln Tunnel in New York City. The objective of the control was to improve the flow characteristics, and in particular, the throughput by regulating the input of traffic into the Tunnel. In this paper, we give highlights of the experiment and the analysis of data collected in the course of the experiment.
