Abstract

This paper presents an inexpensive way of improving the existing Holland Tunnel System; experimental evidence is used to support the proposed change. It also presents several control logics based on speeds and densities, which can be implemented by either use of a fixed program analog device or of general analog computer. A model is derived for general-purpose control of single-lane flow based on finite-state machine theory. Implementation of this system, which is more flexible than the previous one, requires a digital computer.
