Abstract

In recent years, the promotion of energy saving is important from the viewpoint of preventing greenhouse effect and improvement of air pollution problems. In Japan the ratio of energy consumption of transport sector increases year by year, and especially the rate of fuel consumption that vehicles occupy in the transport sector reaches nearly 90%. In addition to the research and development of vehicles themselves, smoothing of traffic flow and efficiency of traffic are important subjects to promote saving energy. In particular reduction of fuel consumption by traffic control is thought of as one of the practical plans that can utilize existing traffic management systems. In this paper the signal control system is analysed from the standpoint of energy saving, that is to minimize fuel consumption at intersections.
