Abstract

This paper summarizes the results of a study whose purpose was to analyze and correlate recent data on the directional response and performance of driver /vehicle systems. The driving situations considered included open and closed loop limit maneuvers, avoidance maneuvers, and nominal closed loop regulation and maneuver tasks. For automobiles, the two parameters (gain and time constant) used in most of the correlation plots effectively describe the key handling properties.
