Abstract

In formulating a policy to improve park and ride it is necessary to know of the possibilities which exist for such a policy. Therefore a research was done to answer the four following policy questions: (1) how big is the share of park and ride in the present situation? (2) which possibilities exist for policy making? What percentage of park and ride trips are in fact realisable? (3) what has to be done to realise this percentage? Which are the parking limits in the central urban area, and (4) what will be the effect of park and ride on the transport mode of the commuters who at present travel to the railway station on foot, by bicycle or by public transport? in this part of the study the collection of data is described and the first analyses are presented.
