Cost overruns are a serious problem in large-scale transport infrastructure projects worldwide. This thesis aims to obtain a better understanding of the phenomenon of cost overruns. It explores causes and explanations for cost overruns from a theoretical perspective. Further, more insight into the cost performance of the Netherlands is provided and this is compared with the cost performance in other countries. In this way a comprehensive theoretical and empirical contribution is given to the current state-of-the-art on the risk of cost overruns. (Author/publisher)
