Abstract

A discussion of the methodologies used to produce estimates of the cost of road accidents (or- the value of reducing their number), focusing on the major issues of contention is presented. Estimates for Australia for 1985 are given. Costs are presented as average unit costs and total costs, using these alternative methodologies, with a preference stated. Cost estimates are provided by cost category and by the level of injury severity sustained by the victims.
