In this paper, the need for road safety education for elderly drivers in Japan is examined. Special courses have been organised for drivers, which are taken when driving licences are reviewed at three year intervals. Elderly drivers are seen as a greater danger on the roads because of slower reaction times, and a greater tendency for erratic driving behaviour. The french title of this paper is `Conseils aux conducteurs âgés fondés sur les résultats d'un diagnostic d'aptitude à la conduite de type nouveau'. The german title of this paper is `Beratung älterer Fahrer anhand einer neuen Diagnose zur Bestimung der Fahrfähigkeit'.
