Abstract

CounterAttack is a joint program of the Ministry of Attorney General and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia with a combined budget of $600.000 per year. Its purpose is to reduce drinking driving casualties through programs of visible police enforcement, public information and education. and research and evaluation. It is estimated that CounterAttack has kept alcohol-related casualty accidents to about 10% less then would be expected without the program, and this in turn results in a yearly savings of about 30 lives, 850 injuries and $10 million-which would otherwise be paid out in insurance hospital and justice system costs.
