Countermeasures in traffic safety : an overview

Abstract

When utilized in the injury control or accident-prevention context, a countermeasure is a technique or program designed to reduce the frequency of accidents or the severity of injury if an accident does take place. Two broad classifications can be made to these countermeasures. 1. the techniques which are designed to modify the environment 2. the techniques which are designed modify the behaviour the remainder of this paper is concerned with these classes of countermeasures as well as some general guidelines for the design of countermeasures.
