Abstract
Spain is participating in the deployment of telematics in the road transport sector in the European context. Both public and private sectors have been very active in this area during the last years. As a consequence there is a network of six interurban traffic control and information centres, several urban traffic centres in main cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia, Malaga, etc...), toll highways control centres, tunnels control systems, etc... But one of the most successful initiatives has been the starting of several traffic information services.
