Abstract

Members of the PIARC Committee for Intelligent Transport reported on the current status of road traffic control and ITS application as well as on their future plans for ITS implementation in their individual countries (U.S.A., Japan, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Portugal). This report synthesizes these country-specific profiles. As a conclusion, some general tendencies can be stated: more weight of modern information technology, new actors playing a major role due to the availability of new products and services, involvement of the private sector in traffic control, and an international harmonization of ITS applications.
