Abstract

In this study the safety benefits from the newly introduced cars have been compared to cars produced at the same time but with older constructions. It is clearly demonstrated that drivers of the newer cars, regarding fatal and severe injuries, have a significantly lower risk compared to the drivers of the older cars. This is an important finding set in relation to the predictions made in society regarding the benefit from increased crash protection. The increased crash protection has been achieved only on the benefit of the occupants of the newer car, and not as a higher aggressiveness to other car occupants. This was also clearly demonstrated in this study. (A)
