Abstract

Results of full-scale vehicle crash tests performed to evaluate a lapped W-section strong-post guardrail or median barrier employing energy-absorbing cartridges constructed of vermiculite concrete are reported. A standard weight sedan can survive impacts into this barrier at a speed of 60 mph and an angle of 21 deg without complete loss of steering control.
