Abstract

"PENDANT" (Pan-European Co-ordinated Accident and Injury Databases) was initiated in order to provide a suitable resource to the Commission with which to support new safety actions and to provide feedback. PENDANT is included within the cluster proposed by the European Vehicle Passive Safety Network and includes several partners who are members of the Federation of European Road Safety Institutes (FERSI). There are 11 partners from 8 countries. The group is larger than normal to ensure the representation of most Member States and to provide complementary expertise in the disciplines involved. There are three Work Packages and a separate management activity within the project: Work Package 1 is divided into three tasks; one of this is called "Accident reconstruction and collision severity assessment guidelines". In this task a database had to be developed, which includes the main information about available public domain crash tests (Euro-NCAP, etc). This database provides information about the acceleration characteristics of the vehicles, occupants and injury criteria as well as intrusion data with well-documented photographs for deformation assessment. This report describes in general the scope of this task, the data source, the structure of the database and how the homepage works. (Author/publisher)
