Abstract

The authors report on an analysis of German motor insurers concerning damage-only accidents, the classification system used and its influence on car design and public accident repair cost awareness. A major influence is said to concern increasing crashworthiness and reduced average claim costs. Research by German motor insurers described has been focused on damage-only repair costs by influencing design and repair techniques. In addition, the research has also included the spare parts market with the aim of reducing repair costs and insurance premiums.
