Abstract

The State of Florida has developed a travel time system that has customizable message formats for the various Traffic Management Centers (TMCs). The uniqueness of this approach allows the message templates to be altered dynamically and each sign to have a unique template - this provides tremendous flexibility in maximizing the characteristics of the display signs while providing the ability to alter the content based on regional needs. Thetravel time system utilizes data from traffic sensors (e.g., detectors) to calculate the travel times for a particular highway link. This paper describes the design, methodology and implementation of the system. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
