Abstract

The ineffectiveness of alcohol treatment programmes in general, and Court diversion programmes in particular, in achieving their objectives of at least reducing alcohol consumption and related problems has often been commented upon. The finding that the Serenity Lodge treatment programme was achieving significant positive results for a wide variety of outcome variables was therefore of interest. A re-analysis was undertaken of a part of the data base of the Serenity Lodge. The need for a more thorough evaluation is discussed.
