Abstract
In 1981 the mayor and aldermen of Amsterdam decided forstrategies on putting up traffic lights and on the actualtiming principles. The article deals with the first sub-ject. Basic considerations are that criteria are only anexpedient, that traffic lights are not always the best so-lution and that local situations may overrule the crite-ria. The norm for removing existing traffic lights is 10glover than the norm for putting theet up.
