Abstract

An in-depth look at the effects of a trailer-hitch load-transfer device on both transient and steady-state handling characteristics of a car-trailer combination is presented. It is stated that the major effect of the load-transfer device considered is to introduce an articulation restraint with an elastic stick-slip characteristic.
