Abstract

Impact evaluations are presented for several curb/guardrail combinations. The evaluations are carried out by conservatively assessing the possibility of a vehicle vaulting a guardrail following impact with a curb. Three parameters are examined: approach velocity, approach angle, and guardrail setback from the curb face. Vaulting analyses are carried out by using curb impact simulation data as input to an analytically derived vaulting equation.
