Abstract

The European development focuses on an interoperable European network of traffic data exchange between "Traffic Management and Information Centres (TMIC's)". Data exchange is seen as a means to come to high-quality traffic management and to a European market for services of traffic and travel. The report describes the current situation concerning traffic and travel data exchange in Germany with respect to the ongoing European development. It is shown that nationwide telematics services like radio broadcasting services for drivers create networks of traffic data exchange. In parallel there are developing traffic management systems on the regional level with cross border exchange of traffic data/information. Further deployment of telematics services in Germany will force harmonising the interoperability between different systems.
