Abstract

A report by the Federal Transit Administration on Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) documents the findings from a customer preference survey conducted-through a series of 12 workshops covering 284 transit customers in four cities. Customers indicated that traditional transit information, such as timetables, route maps, nearest stop, and other trip planning details are most important when riding transit. According to the report, advanced information, such as real-time vehicle location, parking availability, and weather updates, were considered items that would be nice to have, as long as the other information is available first. Information needs appear greatest during pre-trip planning and diminish over the course of the trip. (Author/publisher)
